The title for this year’s conference is Navigating Leadership in the Real World: Identifying the Moral Compass for You and Your School, and we are delighted to confirm that the speakers will include Ross Morrison McGill from The Teacher Toolkit, Sir Kevan Collins from the Education Endowment Foundation, and Lisa Wisher from BraveHeart Education. The Access Group, the developers of HCSS Budgeting software have advised Financial Services of the following regarding Access Group Customers:- Phishing Scam Alert: Ignore request to change payment details. They have said “ this email was not sent by Access and represents a fraudulent attempt to elicit funds from our customers. Customers should NOT provide any information nor send any funds, to any e-mail address or account as indicated in communication”.

Early Years SEND support survey

Currently, PVI providers, childminders and schools receive support for early years children with SEND in different ways. The PVI sector receives support from the early years SEND team and schools receive a budgetary amount to part fund a SENCO. In a bid to ensure equity across the sector we are consulting with all early years providers on the way early years SEND support should be funded from the financial year 2019/20. Fraud targeting schools

Action Fraud have reported that there has been increase in the number fraud reports where schools have been targeted. This fraud involves contact being made with the school business manager or other member of staff that has responsibility for authorising money transfers, purporting to be from the Headteacher. Email Security Alert

We have had contact from a number of schools about emails which appear to be from known accounts containing links for them to follow. These are a real security risk, and can lead to hacking of email accounts. Once this has occurred, a hacker can access archive material. Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) – Herts Grid for Learning (HGfL) updated in readiness for statutory status

Staff who attended the SRE Summit of March 2017 will already be aware that Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is to be a statutory subject in all schools from September 2019. In readiness for this change of status, HCC have commissioned HfL to update the content of the RSE pages on the Hertfordshire Grid for Learning. HfL in partnership with HCC aim to support schools to deliver outstanding PSHE provision that includes high quality, age appropriate Relationship and Sex Education. GCSE English Revision Workshops – places available

The Secondary English team at Herts for Learning will be running revision sessions on AQA English Language and Literature, starting on the 17th February as well as the full-day courses running in the Easter holidays. Experts in English will provide additional tuition, supporting with one goal – to help students get the best possible grade in each of the two exam papers. These sessions are designed to be booked by parents who are looking for ways to support their children, and would be in addition to support being offered in schools. arrow More information

HCSS Budgeting information prior to 2018/19 release

Financial Services will shortly be releasing the maintained school budget software for next year, 2018/19. The software holds 2 years budgets, current and prior year, hence when the 2018/19 version is released any 2016/17 budget scenarios will become unavailable. 2016/17 budget information, including the ABR budget would normally have been stored and filed as part of schools procedures in 2016/17. If you wish to retain further information from a 2016/17 budget scenario it can be printed, and/or saved in Excel format. Comprehensive reporting can be found within the Hertfordshire Report Pack Report from the Reports option and select the tab Hertfordshire Reports.

HfL Service Desk hours Update

Following consultations with schools, we are delighted to confirm that HfL are now able to provide earlier access to our Service Desk support and streamline opening hours. From 1st February, the HfL Service Desk (01438 844777) will be open from 8:15am to 5pm, providing support for IT, data and connectivity issues in schools - enabling staff to get support for core functions earlier in the day and before pupils arrive on site. We would like to thank schools for the feedback on this issue, and ask that schools continue to let us know how we can improve service delivery and support through our customer feedback forms/forums. The agenda has been released for the HfL Primary Headteachers’ spring term seminars. Delivered by the Head of Primary Achievement and a selection of specialist advisers from Herts for Learning, these termly half-day sessions provide headteachers with updates on current topics in primary education. My TeenBrain
My TeenBrain - Workshops for Schools

In 2014 Family Services Commissioning, alongside Family Links and Dr John Coleman, developed My Teen Brain for multi-agency professionals working with young people. This has been a valued and well-used resource, and so far almost 1,000 multi-agency professionals have attended the training. 2 evening workshops for school staff are planned in the Spring term to introduce a new module to be delivered in the classroom. arrow More information

Country Show
Cassiobury Town and Country Show 2018 – looking for local schools to be involved

Cassiobury Park Education are looking for local Watford schools to be involved in the living history area of the festival this year. The planning is in the early stages but the idea is to tie in with the history of Cassiobury and focus on the Civil War period (1642 – 1651). It would also make an ideal ‘post SATS ‘ fun cross curricular topic combining learning about local history and designing costumes. SACRE – Current Provision and Teaching of RE in Secondary Schools

We have written to all secondary schools in Hertfordshire on behalf of the Hertfordshire SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education) following an important national report published earlier this term. One of the roles of the Hertfordshire SACRE is to support local schools in their provision of RE and we are concerned that some schools may be struggling to meet the statutory requirements due to challenges such as lack of specialist teachers, timetabling pressures, performance measures in other subjects and budget. arrow Letter to Secondary Schools
