Safeguarding induction pack for staff

Last updated on 22 June 2023

School safeguarding induction materials

'Keeping Children Safe in Education' (DfE) states:

"All staff should be aware of systems within their school or college which support safeguarding and these should be explained to them as part of staff induction. This should include:

  • the child protection policy;
  • the behaviour policy;
  • the staff behaviour policy (sometimes called a code of conduct);
  • the safeguarding response to children who go missing from education; and
  • the role of the designated safeguarding lead (including the identity of the designated safeguarding lead and any deputies).

Copies of policies and a copy of Part one of  this document should be provided to staff at induction.”

These materials have been devised to support that responsibility.

Note: June 2023.
Updates to this document are currently on hold and will reviewed in the new academic year. Until this time, schools may continue to use this document as a framework to assist them in inductions but they must be sure to review any dates or links prior to being provided to new staff. Schools will be notified once the document has been fully reviewed and updated by the CPSLO service.

The safeguarding induction should also include sharing the school's Child Protection Policy, and other safeguarding policies as appropriate, with the new member of staff.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) should record the names of those who have received a safeguarding induction and the date. Staff should sign this record.

We aim to have this pack updated by the 1st September 2022.
