DBS checks: self declaration

Last updated on 23 July 2020

A self-declaration of criminal convictions should be requested for all candidates who are selected for interview.  This provides an opportunity for an open discussion about the content and gives the candidate the chance to contextualise the events and circumstances that led to the conviction/s.  These conversations should be documented in the interview notes.

Please note: there are two different self-disclosures that should be used; it is important to use the correct one or you could be in breach of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
