Hertfordshire’s biggest LGBTQ+ celebration, Herts Pride, began in 2013 and has taken place each August since. The event celebrates diversity, love and inclusion as well as the progress that has been made towards equality for LGBTQ+ people. Although the usual event is cancelled this year, the Herts Pride team are bringing us a virtual quiz to raise funds to make next year bigger and better than ever!
Hertfordshire Year of Culture, in partnership with HCC and Herts Pride, understands that music is a big part of LGBTQ+ culture. It reaches out to people whose sexuality might leave them feeling isolated from their own families or communities and helps them feel a part of something much bigger. To help us stay connected this #HertsPride, we’ve put together this playlist of some of our top Pride songs – but we need your help! We want to make it the most pumping Pride playlist to soundtrack your summer, packed full of songs suggested by Hertfordshire’s fabulous LGBTQ+ community and its allies. That way whether we’re in our kitchens, our gardens or hanging out with our mates, we can celebrate as one!
Want to add a song to the playlist? Get in touch via the Herts Year of Culture 2020 campaign email at hyoc2020@hertsmere.gov.uk.
Are you loving the playlist? Show us your moves on social media using #HertsPrideParty!
The lockdown has affected us in lots of different ways, forcing us to change the way we work, socialise, shop and especially how we teach and learn! For some however, being stuck at home has provided inspiration, especially for teachers and parents finding ways to engage their children in learning outside of the traditional classroom.
We want to see what imaginative, creative or artistic methods teachers and parents in the county are using to educate their and pupils and children. We’re running a social media campaign called #iSchoolation where people can share all the great examples of home learning that they’ve witnessed during the lockdown and take some inspiration from others in the same situation.
So far, we’ve had teachers making movies, getting their students (and parents) to bake cakes for a competition, and setting fun science experiments that can be done with ordinary household items. If you want to get involved, post on the social media of your choice with the hashtag #iSchoolation and we’ll share the best examples every Friday lunchtime.
What is your school’s biggest achievement this year? What is your memorable moment or the greatest accomplishment the pupils have made? What makes a teacher or student smile with pride?
We all want our young people to get a good start in life and learn the skills that will enable them to reach their full potential.
In Hertfordshire, we are fortunate that we have some of the best education facilities in the country and experience a high attainment in exam results. We know its not just about Ofsted reports and league tables and we appreciate the amount of hard work and effort that goes into the support you provide to children and young people day in, day out. We want to celebrate all that makes Hertfordshire’s schools and colleges great and we need your help to shout it from the rooftops!
Throughout the summer, we will be celebrating by sharing your stories, as part of our year book, about what makes your school or college great. It doesn’t matter how big or small the reason for this is and it definitely doesn’t need to be solely academic. Whether the students all volunteered this year, you competed in a tournament, you reached a goal or showed fantastic team work, you’ve grown your own veg or you had the best ever performance of Romeo and Juliet, we want you to ‘show and tell’ us the best of your school or college!
To get involved, please send us a paragraph about your achievements, a quote from a head teacher, teacher or student and any photos or videos that will help bring your story to life to csnews@hertfordshire.gov.uk or just contact us for further information or support.
