Crafting curiosity: the annual SEND conference

Approaching the leadership of SEND with a curious mind-set has never been more crucial than it is now. This year’s conference will explore this concept further and offer SENCOs and school leaders a valuable opportunity to explore, discuss and reflect upon key messages and current research in order to strengthen practice in their own setting.

Participants will be able to hear from a number of influential speakers and take part in a range of workshops suited to their setting led by specialists in their field.

The conference will enable SENCO’s and school leaders to:

  • consider new ideas and different perspectives
  • explore new ways of doing things

Dr Amelia Roberts, Deputy Director at UCL Centre for Inclusive Education, will deliver the opening keynote, exploring thinking skills for inclusion and looking at how SENCO’s can craft children and young people’s curiosity through accessible starter activities and engaging group work.

Kim Hall, SHMI East of England Region, will be providing a valuable perspective from Ofsted.

To close the conference, Nick Whittaker, School Improvement Partner and Education Consultant, will deliver a motivational keynote about how to resolve the problem of SENCOs being expected to achieve the impossible.

This will be a valuable and uplifting day, allowing time for reflection and further thought enabling participants to:

  • have an opportunity to listen to national speakers with current and innovative ideas
  • have time to reflect, reconsider and re-energise plans for provision for children with SEND
  • improve access to learning for pupils with SEND in their setting
  • improve progress for struggling learners through improved leadership of SEND

All sessions will be recorded and made available after the event for delegates to re-visit for 28 days, along with copies of the workshop resources.
