Join us on Monday 4th January 2027 for our flagship INSET event for primary and Early Years educators The Big INSET 2027: Securing Foundational Learning.

Start the new year with a powerful, shared professional learning experience. The Big INSET 2027 brings schools together for a high-quality, in-person training day focused on securing foundational learning – the essential knowledge and understanding that underpins all future success.

Designed to align with many schools’ January INSET days, the day provides an ideal opportunity for whole staff teams to engage in meaningful CPD and develop a consistent, research-informed approach across your school.

This year’s Big INSET explores:

  • What we mean by foundational learning and why it matters
  • How to identify the most important knowledge within your curriculum
  • The role of pedagogy and in-the-moment assessment in securing learning
  • Practical approaches to support pupils to learn, retain, recall and apply knowledge

Throughout the day, you will:

  • Take part in a shared staff development experience, building a common language and understanding across your team
  • Explore key themes across core subjects (English, maths, science) and a range of foundation subjects, plus sessions focusing on inclusion, SEND and Early Years
  • Consider how assessment and adaptive teaching support the development and retention of foundational knowledge
  • Leave with actionable strategies to strengthen teaching and learning in your school

Make it your INSET day

Many schools choose to use The Big INSET as their official January INSET day. With content designed for whole-school engagement and pricing structured to support team bookings, this event offers a cost-effective way to deliver high-quality, expert-led CPD at scale.

The Big INSET is ideal for whole-school participation and relevant for headteachers, senior leaders, subject and middle leaders, all teachers, Early Years practitioners and teaching assistants.
