Changes to local councils in Hertfordshire
The government has announced changes to local councils in Hertfordshire. Subject to parliamentary approval, four new councils will be created to deliver the services currently provided by Hertfordshire County Council and the district and borough councils. These changes will not take effect until 1 April 2028.
For children, young people and families, there will be no immediate changes to the services you receive. Hertfordshire County Council will continue to deliver services as it does today while plans for the new councils are developed.
We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will continue to keep you updated.
