SEND Health and Wellbeing Survey 2026

Last updated on 28 October 2026

The SEND Health and Wellbeing Survey 2026 is open to children and young people aged 11 to 25 years with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) living in Hertfordshire. The survey provides an opportunity for young people to share their experiences and views, helping to shape services and support for SEND children, young people and their families. Please explore the SEND report from 2025.

The survey opens on Monday 9th November 2026 at 9am and closes on Friday 12th February 2027 at midnight.

Why take part?

SEND schools and colleges who submit over 50 surveys will receive an individualised data report on their pupil population.

The survey explores a range of important topics that affect the health and wellbeing of SEND children and young people, including:

  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Healthy eating and physical activity
  • Smoking and vaping
  • Relationships and sexual health
  • Safety and bullying

By taking part, young people help us better understand their experiences and ensure that services are designed to meet their needs.

Completing the survey

The survey can be completed on a computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone. Completion time will vary depending on the age and needs of the individual.

The survey includes a ‘save and continue’ feature, allowing young people to complete it over more than one session if needed. Participants will be asked to select their school or college from a list or identify themselves as home educated or not currently in education.

Some young people may require support to complete the survey. It is important to reassure participants that responses are anonymous and, where appropriate, provide privacy when answering more personal questions.

How the results are used

The findings provide valuable insight into the health and wellbeing of SEND children and young people across Hertfordshire. The data helps commissioners, schools, colleges and partner organisations to:

  • Identify local needs and emerging issues
  • Plan and improve services
  • Develop targeted support for SEND young people and their families
  • Support Hertfordshire's wider SEND Improvement Strategy and strengthen the voice of SEND children and young people
