SHINE Parent and Carer Survey
Hertfordshire is partnering with researchers at UCL, Durham and Newcastle Universities to invite parents from your school to take part in the SHINE Parent & Carer Survey.
This 20-30 minute survey is designed for parents and carers of Reception and Year 6 children. It focuses on their perspectives on children’s health and wellbeing and explores their experiences with the National Child Measurement Programme.
What we’re asking from you
Simply share the email template attached with Reception and Year 6 parents/carers. You can share it via your usual communication channels (email, parent portal, newsletter, etc.). The email template includes the survey link.
Please do not mention to parents/carers that one of the survey’s aims is to evaluate the National Child Measurement Programme. This is essential for maintaining the survey’s objectivity.
Parents and carers will complete the survey in their own time and on their own devices. If parents and carers would prefer a paper version of the survey, they can request it using the contact details in the email template we have provided.
Why participate?
The research is commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care to address concerns around child measurement in schools. By participating, your school has a chance to shape national policy regarding how children’s health is monitored across the country. You will also get information about the health and wellbeing of Year 6 and Reception Year children in your local authority area, and nationally.
We will provide you with a digital badge of recognition for your school’s contribution to this important research, which can be displayed on your website.
Parents and carers can also enter a prize draw for one of four £50 shopping vouchers, awarded in your local authority area. If you have questions, please contact the SHINE study team at shine@ucl.ac.uk.
Thank you for supporting this important research.
