The new mandatory qualification for new to role SENCO’s: NPQ for SENCOs

Last updated on 05 February 2025

From October 2024 the mandatory qualification for all new-to-role SENCOs to successfully complete within three years of coming to the post is the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs.

Our next cohort is starting in April 2025 with a closing date for registrations of 21st March. There are currently DfE funded places available. In Hertfordshire, NPQ for SENCOs is being delivered by Eastern Partnership UK (SEND), part of the HFL Education family, working in partnership with National Society for Education (Church of England and Church in Wales) (NSE), a DfE recognised and highly respected NPQ Lead Provider for all schools. *Please note Eastern Partnership UK (SEND), part of the HFL Education family, is not a faith-based organisation and in creating a partnership with NSE is open to NPQ applications from all schools and settings.

This partnership enables us to deliver the 18-month programme in collaboration with HFL’s SEND advisers following the well-honed NPQ cycle of Activate, Teach, Practice and Apply. Coaching will form an important element of this blended programme, enabling participants to benefit from local knowledge and build strong networks.

Many schools and settings support experienced teachers and leaders to complete the course as aspiring SENCOs, mindful of the importance of succession planning.

For further information and to book your place on the NPQ for SENCOs, please visit the website or contact us on easternp.send@hfleducation.org with any queries.
