The Young People’s Health and Well Being Survey is moving to every other year
The Young People’s Health & Wellbeing Survey (YPHWS) gathers self-reported information from those aged 11-19 in Hertfordshire and has been running since 2020. Anyone can explore the YPHWS dashboard which currently shows data across 5 years from 2020 – 2024.
The YPHWS will now gather young people views every other year, the next survey will go out in November 2026.
The reason for this change in frequency is because the trend in responses for the different questions is typically stable, decreasing or increasing at a steady rate, rather than having a sudden change in response. This would indicate that collecting annual data does not lead to greater insight, particularly given the cost in capacity that it takes to run and analyse the survey.
For the 1st time in 2024 an adapted version of the Young Person’s Health and Well Being Survey for SEND schools was piloted. The adapted SEND survey will continue every year while it is being established.
The Public Health team will continue to provide those secondary schools who have consistently submitted a high number of surveys with an individualised insight reports illustrating trends from the main survey themes for their school. If you would like to discuss further, please contact the Public Health team via the survey inbox @ yphws@hertfordshire.gov.uk
