School online safety policy

Last updated on 05 May 2023

HFL Education does not have plans to update the online safety model policy that was written in 2020. There is no statutory requirement for schools to have one and the emphasis has moved toward fully integrating online safety across all school policies as relevant and substantially as part of the safeguarding policy.

Should your school wish to have an online safety policy you may find elements of the 2020 version below helpful.

If you have any queries please contact shelagh.jennings@hfleducation.org

Model online safety policy 2020 (including online safety acceptable use agreements)

Please note that this is a ‘model’ policy and can be adapted to meet the needs of your school/ setting. All adaptations should be risk assessed.

Please insert your school name, logo and policy title to the front page.

Schools are recommended to personalise this policy and ensure it meets the needs of the school. Schools may wish to adopt all or parts of this policy and in both of these instances, a school level risk assessment should be carried out. The green font in the document is just to help identify the changes/ additions to this version . An appendix of resource documents has been added for guidance to help schools develop a remote education section to their policy if this is applicable to their practice and setting.
