SEN and disability: NPQ for SENCOs

Last updated on 23 May 2024

National Professional Qualification for Special Educational Needs Coordinators (NPQ for SENCOs)

Mandatory qualification for new-to-role SENCOs from October 2024

The Eastern Partnership UK (SEND) brings its considerable expertise from 15 years of running the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) to a new and innovative NPQ programme.

The Eastern Partnership is working with CEFEL, the Church of England Foundation for Educational Leadership a DfE approved Lead Provider of the full suite of NPQ Programmes including the NPQ for SENCOs. Through this partnership with CEFEL the Eastern Partnership has been able to play an active role in developing the curriculum content for the NPQ for SENCOs for delivering this mandatory qualification.

The delivery mechanism follows a cyclical process of Activate, Teach, Practice and Apply across the 18-month duration of the course. There is a strong emphasis on coaching within the programme and the potential for building strong networks through our local delivery groups.

The NPQ for SENCOs provides a unique opportunity to progress to the Advanced SENCO Award and onwards to an MEd.
