Sexual abuse toolkit: teaching resources (primary)
These resources support primary schools to teach age and stage appropriate learning about safe, respectful relationships, body privacy, personal boundaries, online safety, trusted adults and help-seeking. They should be used as part of a carefully sequenced RSHE/PSHE curriculum and a whole-school safeguarding approach, not as one-off lessons. Schools should select and adapt resources to reflect the needs of their pupils, including pupils with SEND and other vulnerabilities, and should quality assure any external visitor, purchased lesson or published resource against statutory RSHE guidance, KCSIE, school safeguarding procedures and equality duties.
For primary pupils, inclusion should be woven through the curriculum through learning about respect, kindness, belonging and different family structures. Resources should help all children feel safe, valued and able to seek help, while avoiding the singling out of any one group in introductory commentary. Schools should ensure parent/carer communication is clear, resources are transparent, and teaching remains factual, balanced, safeguarding-led and appropriate to pupils’ age and stage.
