Examples of Good Practice of RE sections on school websites including RE curriculum plans
Hertfordshire SACRE believes that high‑quality RE sections on school websites typically include:
- Clear RE curriculum plans for each year group, comparable in detail to those provided for foundation subjects.
- A statement outlining the aims, purpose, or intent of RE within the whole‑school ethos, including how RE supports SMSC development and British Values.
- A statement outlining the aims, purpose, or intent of RE within the whole‑school ethos, including how RE supports SMSC development and British Values.
- Confirmation of compliance with the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus for RE (for Community/VC schools) or, for academies, a statement identifying the syllabus the school has chosen to follow.
The following schools have kindly agreed to share their website links as examples of good practice:
- Bournehall Primary School: Bournehall Primary School - Religious Education and Bournehall Primary School - SMSC which shows how SMSC development is embedded in every aspect of school life.

How to use the materials
The agreed syllabus provides clarity the aims, time allocation, breadth of study and expected learning outcomes for Religious Education in Hertfordshire maintained schools and as such is the basis for medium term planning, and is not the same as a scheme of work. It is the responsibility of the school, using the non-statutory support materials provided and accessed from this website, to design an appropriate curriculum for their pupils that meets the requirements of the agreed syllabus and to develop meaningful learning experiences for their pupils.
