Hertfordshire Educational Foundation (HEF) is a small registered charity that provides support for young people with a home address within the boundaries of Hertfordshire.

Grants for school visits

Supports primary school pupils taking part in educational visits arranged by their school whose parents, due to 'exceptional circumstances' other than financial, are unable to pay for all or part of the board and lodging element of the visit.

The Sir George Burns Fund

Supports young people aged between the ages of 16-21 who have a disability or are underprivileged to.

  • purchase a special item of equipment or
  • take part in recreational and educational activities, or
  • take part in an expedition, short course or conference either within the UK or abroad

Under exceptional circumstances applications just outside of this age range may be considered.

Travel scholarships

The object of the award is to enable students aged between the ages of 17-21 to undertake approved interesting courses and other educational activities abroad, particularly where there is a benefit to the community they are visiting and expect to be resident abroad for at least one month.

The Donald Mackean Trust

The Trust is here to provide grants for disadvantaged young people in Hertfordshire to enter STEM and related learning and careers with a science focus. Namely, technology, engineering, maths, health and the environment and indeed science.

Grants are offered to support participation in informal learning, academic courses, traineeships, apprenticeships and current or future employment. They can be used for personal development, additional support, equipment or to cover costs that enable participation.

Beneficiaries include young people under 25 who are in care or care leavers; carers; ex-offenders; refugees; parents or parents to be; those who have mental health issues learning difficulties or disabilities and people who face hardship other disadvantages.

If the answer is "yes" to the above question and you are eligible with a home address in Hertfordshire you may be eligible for a small award from The Donald Mackean Trust. Under exceptional circumstances applications just outside of this age range may be considered.

Awards are made to individuals and not to groups. The award amount will depend to some extent on the number and nature of applications, but is usually in the region of £50 and £1000.
