Special Schools Outreach

Last updated on 27 November 2024

Some special schools in Hertfordshire offer an Outreach Service that ensures the needs of children and young people with SEND are met as locally as possible.

The focus is on sharing good practice, resources and current interventions. Teachers from special schools will visit schools to:

  • build staff confidence and develop existing SEND practice within mainstream schools.
  • direct work with a pupil to model teaching, or assessment approaches and enable school staff to put them in place.
  • advise schools, together with parents, following direct observation of work with the pupil in class.
  • support the development and use of resources to enable children and young people with SEND to access the curriculum, learn and make good progress.
  • lead in the research, evaluation and sharing of new resources, best practice, effective strategies and interventions as they become available.

Special schools are assigned to local areas linked to DSPLs:

Woolgrove School – DSPL 1, North Herts

Greenside – DSPL 2, Stevenage

Amwell View – DSPL 3, East Herts

Middleton – DSPL 4, Broxbourne

Woolgrove School - DSPL 5, Welwyn and Hatfield

Watling View – DSPL 6, Hertsmere

Collett – DSPL 7, St Albans

Woodfield – DSPL 8, Dacorum

Colnbrook – DSPL 9, Watford and Three Rivers

Referrals should go direct to the schools above (and come from the child or young person’s school following conversations with parents who must give consent for involvement).
