Arrange a free waste education visit at your school
A qualified teacher will teach your pupils the value of reducing waste by reusing and recycling materials.
Visits can include a whole school assembly followed by practical activities for two classes, looking at a range of materials and linking with national curriculum science targets.
To book a visit, contact our waste education officer, Monika Koziara:

Recycling at your school
Boost your school’s recycling efforts by requesting or applying for:
Composters and kitchen caddies
Every school in Hertfordshire is entitled to two free composters and kitchen caddies.
Please email hertfordshirereuseshops@hertfordshire.gov.uk to claim yours.
Free bulk bags of compost
Your school can claim a free bulk bag of compost from enVar.
Please email ruth.cullen@envar.co.uk for more information or to make a request.
Kerbside collection scheme
Contact your local district or borough council to see if your school could be included in their kerbside collection scheme.
The Apsley Paper Trail project
The Apsley Paper Trail project in Hemel Hempstead accepts paper from schools for free, to be recycled locally. Please call them on 01442 234600 for further details.
Electrical equipment collections
Unfortunately, we no longer offer a collection service for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) from schools.
Other disposal options:
- Contact the company who supplied the equipment. Most of them must offer free take back.
- Contact an accredited IT disposal service, such as Priority WEEE, School Care or others. Large IT collections may be free of charge.
