Hertfordshire Schools Sustainability Network Forum

Last updated on 09 February 2026

Hertfordshire sustainability survey running until 22nd March, see details below.

The Hertfordshire Schools Sustainability Network Forum is open to all staff working in an education setting and its purpose is to build advocacy, enable discussions and inspire the sharing of tools and best practice across schools and FE colleges in Hertfordshire.

DfE Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy

The network also reflects the DfE Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy that has set a goal for all education settings to have a Sustainability Lead owning a climate action plan (to include curricular and extra-curricular activity, procurement, adaptation and decarbonisation plans) by 2025. Schools can nominate anyone as their Sustainability Lead - no prior knowledge is necessary but a commitment to and passion for the environment and sustainability will be helpful.

Frequency: 3 times per school term
Duration: 1 hour (3:30pm to 4:30pm)
Location: Microsoft Teams

To join the Schools Sustainability Network Forum, and to receive all meeting invites, please contact sustainability@hfleducation.org

Hertfordshire sustainability survey

Share your thoughts on sustainability and climate change

Since declaring a climate emergency in 2019, we have committed to becoming a more sustainable organisation, while working with partners and residents to tackle climate change and its impacts across the county.

You may remember that last year we asked you to share your thoughts on sustainability and climate change, as well as our work to tackle it here in Hertfordshire. We have used this information to help understand what matters most to you and to shape our efforts to communicate and engage with you around these important issues.

For those who live, work or study in Hertfordshire, we are once again asking you to complete a short survey which will help us better understand your priorities around climate change. Together with your help, we can continue to work hard in building a sustainable, inclusive and thriving Hertfordshire.

We especially want to hear from young people on sustainability and climate change and this is an opportunity to get their voices heard, please share this with your students and use it as a group activity discussion within the classroom, assembly or eco clubs. The more we hear back, the more we can understand and adapt our actions and awareness campaigns.
