Climate change: The Sustainability Guide for Schools

Last updated on 31 October 2024

The Sustainability Guide has been developed by Hertfordshire County Council for schools in Hertfordshire. It is a new digital resource for teachers, support staff and school business managers in Primary, Secondary, SEND and Educational Support Centres education.

The guide provides key tips, advice and links to information and resources to support schools in delivering environmental sustainability education. It also empowers students and staff to take positive environmental actions both at school and at home.

The Sustainability Guide is divided up into six key themes:

  • Climate change
  • Cleaner air
  • Enhancing nature
  • Water
  • Energy and emissions
  • Waste and recycling

The Sustainability Guide is a live resource which will be regularly revised and updated in line with feedback from schools, teachers and staff, alongside any changes in legislation and requirements from the DfE.

Explore the guide on the Hertfordshire County Council website

We would welcome the positive climate actions your school is taking, as well as any feedback on the Sustainability Guide. Please email us at sustainable@hertfordshire.gov.uk and let us know what your school has been doing and any feedback that you may have.
