Aim

To enable schools to develop and embed an open, transparent safeguarding culture where all concerns about adults working in or for the school (including supply teachers, volunteers and contractors) are confidently reported and responded to promptly and appropriately, ensuring children are protected from harm.

Learning objectives

All school staff and volunteers (for volunteers where appropriate) will:

  1. Understand how safeguarding policies support safe working practice and reduce the risk of adults harming children, whether intentionally or accidentally.
  2. Recognise types of offending behaviour and the signs of grooming to know what to look out for within the school community.
  3. Know how to respond and report concerns about unsafe or inappropriate behaviour by adults working with children, in line with the school’s low‑level concerns and allegations policy.
  4. Learn how to maintain vigilance and uphold a safe culture so that staff and children can sustain healthy, professional relationships in line with the school’s code of conduct and safeguarding systems.
