Leadership development: conferences and training
Hertfordshire has very active headteacher associations: HASSH (Hertfordshire Association of Secondary School Headteachers), PHF (Primary Heads Forum), and the Special, Alternative Provision Headteachers Group (SAP Group). All of these associations are involved in support for headteachers and school leaders. Each year there are conferences, which are well attended for each phase. The success of the conferences has ensured continuing good attendance and an open approach to sharing knowledge, skills and practice widely across the county.
Headteacher conferences
Conference events are held for primary, secondary and special headteachers. The conference programme for each is developed with an executive group of headteachers and HFL Education staff to ensure it meets the needs of headteachers.
In addition to the conferences, the forums meet regularly. The secondary headteachers also hold half-day events, usually locally and on particular themes, in the autumn and spring terms.
The annual governor conference
HFL organises a well-attended annual conference in the autumn term. The conference attracts over 350 governors each year and always has high-profile keynote speakers. Many schools choose to make it a joint event for the head and chair of governors to attend together.
Themed conferences
HFL organises themed conferences and courses, open to all, to meet local needs and support schools and academies with national agendas through our national conference programme.
