Leadership development: gaining qualifications

Hertfordshire values its teachers and leaders and recognises that it is important to provide opportunities for continuous professional development which may lead to further qualifications.

Executive leadership programme

University of Hertfordshire

The HFL Education/University of Hertfordshire Executive Leadership Programme, aims to bring together the best of current research, thinking and training on executive and strategic leadership and is a unique opportunity to do so within both the Hertfordshire and national context for schools. The learning approach is personalised and built around the identification of individual development needs as an existing or aspirant executive leader through reflecting on and analysing your leadership and professional practice. Completion of the programme counts towards 30 credits for a Master’s Degree.

The year-long programme runs from October to July and consists of:

4 face-to-face sessions

2 interactive webinars

2 school visits

2 twilight interactive webinars

Plus bespoke personalised sessions.

National professional qualifications

The national leadership qualification suite including the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders (NPQSL), and the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders (NPQML) are offered through a range of providers including Teaching School Alliances.

Leadership East delivers national professional qualifications in the Eastern region.

The National SENCO award is offered through the Eastern Partnership (SEND), administered through Herts for Learning and accredited by the University of Hertfordshire. For further information about this award please visit:

Masters

If you are interested in engaging in a Masters degree programme you can approach any university or TSA, but locally the University of Hertfordshire is always interested in the development of local professionals. 

HertsCam offers the MEd in Leading Teaching and Learning accredited by the University of Hertfordshire. This involves being part of a network of other like-minded professionals also engaged in improving education through teacher leadership.
